Project Overview
As part of the Kumeū branch upgrade, we fabricated a completely new illuminated lightbox, designed to match the depth, height and alignment of the adjacent non-illuminated ACM fascia.
No previous lightbox existed — the unit was built from the ground up to integrate cleanly into the existing façade while dramatically improving night visibility from the main road.
The finished lightbox measures 1860 × 580 × 95mm, sized for clear visibility from both vehicle and pedestrian approach angles.
Brief & Challenge
The new lightbox needed to match the depth and projection of the neighbouring ACM box section, but the guttering above the fascia provided no suitable connection point.
Additionally, nighttime illumination had to remain clean, even and colour-accurate — no washout, no patchy hotspots, no visible LED patterning.
This required a fully custom mounting and lighting layout rather than a standard off-the-shelf solution.
What we did
We fabricated the lightbox using a formed acrylic shell with fully wrapped sides in high-opacity yellow — ensuring the only light transmission occurs through the branded elements.
Translucent 3M film overlays allow consistent glow with crisp edge definition, giving the MTF fin and logo clarity during night operation.
To mount the unit securely, we installed three galvanised 4mm L-brackets (300×250mm), fixed beneath gutter level to bypass the canopy obstruction. This support system keeps the lightbox sitting flush to the façade, visually consistent with surrounding signage.
Electrical work was independently certified, with a new switched lighting circuit installed so staff can control illumination separately from internal systems.
• Designed, fabricated and installed a custom external LED lightbox
• Face + side construction using formed acrylic panels for seamless rigidity
• 20mm Multiboard PVC foam backer used to maintain strength without adding weight
• Wrapped top + sides in yellow block-out film to eliminate bleed when illuminated
• Branding finished with precision-cut vinyl + 3M coloured translucent overlays
• Internal LED module layout designed for even illumination with no hotspots
• Weather-sealed gland for external wiring + moisture protection
• All electrical work validated by a licensed contractor
• Custom bracket system engineered for mounting due to gutter obstruction
• Alignment matched to adjacent fascia panels for a unified architectural finish
Materials
• Formed acrylic face + return panels
• 20mm Multiboard PVC backer
• High-opacity yellow block-out vinyl
• 3M translucent coloured film
• LED modules + controller
• 4mm galvanised L-brackets
• Weather-sealed cable gland
Processes
• Full fabrication + acrylic forming
• Block-out vinyl wrap / no edge bleed
• Translucent overlay application
• LED layout + controller wiring
• Electrical contractor sign-off
• Custom bracket installation
• Onsite alignment + final switch configuration
Outcome
The result is a bright, clean, modern lightbox that amplifies the branch’s presence long after business hours — a key advantage given the new site’s position on a busy evening traffic route.
This unit transforms the frontage at night, pairing with the ACM fascia by day to deliver full 24-hour visibility.
Professional. Seamless. Engineered to match, built to stand out.
