Project Overview
As part of MTF Kumeū’s new branch opening, we produced and installed a premium acrylic feature wall built around the updated national brand identity. The goal was to create a high-impact reception focal point — one that reflects the professionalism of the branch, matches the national rollout direction, and gives immediate presence the moment you walk through the front door.
The installation consists of precision-cut acrylic logos mounted to a 2400×2000mm Melteca wall panel, with multiple layers, clear depth separation, and an automotive-grade gloss finish to maximise light reflection under the branch’s overhead downlighting.
Brief & Challenge
Traditional acrylic signage typically uses simple 2K paint or direct vinyl application — but MTF Kumeū required something significantly more premium.
The branch features strong downlighting and a low-gloss interior palette, meaning any surface imperfection would show instantly.
To achieve a perfect, high-gloss finish, we used automotive refinishing methodology rather than standard sign shop painting.
This gave us flawless colour uniformity, exceptional sheen, and crisp reflection lines across all layers.
What we did
Every acrylic component was finished with Deltron basecoat + high-solids Autothane clear, then wet-sanded and polished — a finishing method rarely used in signage due to the time and precision involved. The result is a mirror-flat gloss that reacts beautifully under the branch’s multiple overhead lights, creating vivid shadow depth behind both the primary logo and layered fin element.
Precise installation was achieved using a full-scale negative alignment template, allowing perfect spacing across disconnected elements on the Melteca panel.
Soft-handled placement and careful wall pressure ensured no gloss disturbance during install, necessary for such a premium finish.
• CNC-cut 6mm acrylic for primary logo
• Layered fin element built using 10mm acrylic + raised detail (20mm total depth)
• Main logo suite approx 820×450mm
• Large feature fin approx 1650×850mm
• Custom Deltron basecoat + high-solids clearcoat finish
• Wet-sand + polish for mirror-grade surface
• Laser-cut edges — no flame polish required
• Vinyl negative template produced for precise wall placement
• Installed using 3M VHB + construction adhesive
• One-day onsite install, multi-day pre-production, paint & curing sequence
Materials
• 6mm & 10mm clear acrylic
• Deltron automotive basecoat
• High-solids Autothane clearcoat
• 3M VHB structural tape
• Construction adhesive
• Vinyl wall alignment template
Processes
• CNC cutting + multi-layer fabrication
• Automotive-grade paint, clearcoat + mirror gloss finish
• Wet-sand & polish
• Vinyl templating for exact spacing
• One-day install with soft-handled placement
Outcome
The completed feature wall is instantly visible upon entry — bold, dimensional, vibrant, and unmistakably MTF.
It reinforces the national brand direction while adding a high-value architectural element to the reception area.
Kumeū is one of the first branches to receive this new internal branding treatment, and the success of this installation continues to influence rollout considerations across other locations.
A statement piece — both visually and technically.
